FREDRIK PETROV.

Fredrik Petrov is a performing artist and choreographer based in Oslo, Norway.

His artistic research and practice revolve around authenticity as a tongue-twisting phenomenon. Petrov approaches the intricate concept of authenticity versus fraud through physical rigor, engaging the body in intense and extreme tasks. Recognizing authenticity as a phenomenon that may be elusive and challenging to fully grasp, this process allows for a focused exploration. Stripping away distractions and noise becomes a method of uncovering “essence”, acknowledging the complexity of authenticity as it subtly reveals itself through movement and expression.

In Fredrik Petrov's choreographic practice, a central role is assumed by detailed improvisation. The dynamic interplay between performer and audience becomes a key driver, forging a connection that propels the work forward. This exploration is particularly poignant given Petrov's perspective as a queer artist who´s often challenging societal constraints.

Playing in the space between the ugly and the beautiful, comfort and threat, Petrov seeks to challenge perceptions. His work reflects a conscious effort to transcend conventional boundaries and invites audiences to contemplate the complexities inherent in the human experience.

Fredrik Petrov´s selected works includes Pardon, Petals , Panser, VEGGEN.
